This is a .45-70 based case that is 2.4 inches long and is suitable for smokeless or black powder loads. When loading with black powder, annealing of mouth may be necessary to allow case to properly seal chamber due to lower pressures generated by these loads. Our case is produced very strong to withstand high pressure loads associated with smokeless hunting loads and since the only way to make brass harder is to work the material our only option is to leave them stiffer so the customers can anneal for specific application. See annealing procedure in Frequently Asked Questions.

Product Review
While I do not have a 45-90 yet, purchased 45-90 brass to reform to 40-82 WCF. After annealing, re formed the brass to 40-82 WCF directly with the same caliber die, no rejects. Since then, recently purchased a 38-70 WCF. After annealing, reformed the brass with same caliber die, no rejects. A necessary preparation I have learned in reforming brass: Using a chamfer tool on the outside of the case mouth is not enough, using a fine file at a flat angle to remove the last burr, one can feel in with a fingernail, will help prevent reject cases. Also, the shoulder vent hole included in some dies will ruin cases such as the 33 WCF when reforming.

It's been several years ago but I purchased three different brands of this caliber. Starline was by far the best in quality of materials and manufacturing standards. Have just recommended Starline to a good friend and recommend their products to others as well.
